Sylvie Kreutsch @Rivierenhof

Yesterday, my husband and I were lucky enough to spend an evening at the beautiful Rivierenhof. We were there to see Sylvie Kreusch. My husband had already seen her perform several times, but for me, it was a first. I arrived not knowing what to expect. It didn’t take long for her to command my complete attention.

Sylvie appeared in a shimmering dark-red dress with dramatic puff sleeves. Jani Kazaltzis might have had a few thoughts about it, but I’m calling it artistic freedom. The outfit suited her performance perfectly: theatrical, unapologetic and impossible to ignore.

She was backed by a six-piece band, with the drummer and guitarist standing out through their infectious energy. They weren’t simply playing the music; they were visibly enjoying every second of it.

Watching Sylvie and her band reminded me of a trust fall. As she moved freely across the stage, they gave her all the space she needed without ever losing their grip on the performance. They knew exactly when to push forward, when to hold back and when to catch her. Their confidence gave Sylvie the freedom to completely surrender herself to the moment.

I was mesmerized. So much so that even the rain seemed to fade into the background. Rather than breaking the spell, it became part of it, adding another layer to the dreamlike atmosphere.

That night marked the final performance of an incredible run of 125 shows, which made being there feel even more special. Her 125th show was my first—and I sincerely hope it won’t be my last.
