A Taste of Oan de Voart

As promised, here are my thoughts and opinions about the three performances I saw at last Saturday’s Oan de Voart Festival.

Appetizer: Cesar Sun

We arrived just in time for the appetizer: Cesar Sun, a Belgian psychedelic stoner-punk trio known for their high-energy, chaotic live shows and heavy guitar riffs.

My husband and I had seen them before, so I knew what to expect. And they definitely delivered: plenty of energy and heavy guitar riffs. The lead singer did his best to get the crowd involved, and a small group of younger people enthusiastically responded by starting something that was supposed to resemble a mosh pit.

The trio clearly put a lot of energy and effort into their set, and their guitar playing is seriously impressive. Musically, these guys know what they’re doing.

It’s just not entirely my cup of tea. Or should I say my appetizer? A little too heavy for this girl.

Main course: Hukkelfukkers

Then it was time for the main course: Hukkelfukkers.

They had to make do with only one drummer and an interim bass player, but that didn’t seem to bother the guys at all. From beginning to end, their set was simply fun.

Even though I don’t always understand the lyrics, I laughed a lot. I especially enjoy the lead singer’s little intermezzos between the songs. I think he’s hilarious.

Politically correct? Hell no. Funny? Hell yes.

Apparently, somewhere along the way, it happened: I’m officially a fangirl!
