Cookies are small text files that websites store on your device when you visit them.

They can help a website remember information about your visit, keep you signed in, maintain secure sessions, and provide a consistent experience between pages.

Similar technologies, such as local storage, may perform related functions within your browser.

Encore uses cookies and similar technologies to operate the platform, maintain secure sessions, and support limited first-party audience measurement.

These technologies may be used to:

• Keep you signed in to your account.
• Maintain secure authentication sessions.
• Protect accounts and platform functionality.
• Remember basic preferences where supported.
• Ensure pages and features work correctly.
• Prevent repeated signed-out visits from increasing a Story Read count more than once per day.

Encore does not currently use cookies for advertising, cross-site tracking, or behavioural advertising profiles.

Essential cookies are required for important parts of Encore to function.

Encore uses Supabase to provide authentication. When you sign in, Supabase authentication cookies are used to maintain and securely refresh your authenticated session. This allows Encore to recognise that you are signed in and lets you move between protected pages without repeatedly entering your login details.

Authentication cookies may persist as needed to maintain your session and may be refreshed, expire, or be revoked depending on your account activity, session state, and authentication settings.

Because authentication cookies are necessary to provide signed-in account functionality, Encore may not function properly if they are disabled or deleted.

Published Stories display an aggregate Read count. To reduce duplicate counting, the same reader is counted at most once per Story per day.

When you are signed in, Encore can use your authenticated account identifier to apply this daily deduplication. When you are signed out, Encore uses a first-party cookie named encore_reader_id.

The signed-out reader cookie contains a randomly generated identifier. It is not your name, email address, or Encore account ID, and it is not used to create a public list of Story readers. It is used to recognise the same browser for Read-count deduplication and may remain on the device for up to six months unless it is deleted earlier.

Encore does not use this identifier for advertising, cross-site tracking, or building advertising profiles.

If Encore introduces additional analytics, monitoring, or measurement technologies that require consent, they will remain disabled until the appropriate consent has been obtained. This policy will also be updated to explain how those technologies are used.

Encore relies on third-party services to provide parts of the platform.

These providers may use cookies or similar technologies when necessary to deliver their services, maintain security, or support platform functionality.

For example, Encore uses Supabase for services including authentication and data storage. Additional providers may be introduced as the platform develops.

If a third-party service requires non-essential cookies or similar technologies, Encore will obtain any consent required before enabling those technologies.

Most browsers allow you to view, delete, or block cookies through their privacy and security settings.

You can also configure your browser to notify you when a website attempts to store a cookie.

Blocking or deleting essential cookies may sign you out of Encore or prevent protected parts of the platform from working correctly.

Deleting the anonymous reader identifier does not remove a Story or your Encore account. If a new identifier is created later, signed-out Read deduplication may begin again from that new identifier.

Cookies that are strictly necessary for authentication, security, or a service you expressly request may be used without an optional-cookie preference.

The anonymous Story reader identifier is used for audience measurement rather than authentication. Encore does not create or use that identifier for a signed-out visitor until the visitor actively allows Story Read measurement.

Encore uses a preference cookie named encore_story_read_measurement to remember whether you allowed or declined signed-out Story Read measurement.

If you choose Only necessary, Encore stores that preference, removes the anonymous reader identifier if one already exists, and does not count your signed-out Story visits through that identifier. You can change or withdraw this choice below at any time.

Your Story Read measurement preference may be remembered for up to six months. This preference is separate from the anonymous reader identifier and is used to remember the choice you made.

This Cookie Policy may be updated as Encore evolves or as the services used by the platform change.

The latest version will always be published on this page. The date at the top of the policy shows when it was most recently updated.
